ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
It was Tadeusz
desire of writing about the bow and its significance in successful violin playing
followed. Today, I wish to thank professor
of correct violin playing. I was privileged to see him at his home in Poland (1999) and
discuss my subject. We both celebrated the “pupil returning to the master,” which
occurred a few months before Professor Wroñski passed away.
Grateful acknowledgement is extended to Eliot Chapo, my advisor and violin
professor during the doctoral work at the Florida State University; colleague, concert
artist, and friend, for both his musical critiques and expertise provided during our
interview sessions which have found a substantial content in this subject.
My indebtedness is extended to Professor Phillip Spurgeon for his courtesy and
support. His detailed reading of my final draft, kindly comments, and final corrections
have led to the completion of my method for correcting the bow hold. I will always
gratefully remember his persistence and steadfast concern on all practical matters.
Thanks to my committee member, Professor Lubomir Georgiev, for his interest and
his artistic input to the subject. A special gratitude I bestow to Professor Ladislav
Kubik for his kindness and support in serving as my external committee member and
evaluating my work with generous encouragement.
I gratefully acknowledge Ms. Jennifer Betts for her editorial expertise as well as
rendering the final draft of my text into a coherent document. Thanks to my talented

student Davina Loskot for her assistance with the music examples. To those who have
supported knowingly or otherwise, and to the friendly people and my colleagues at
Valdosta State University, I wish to express my grateful appreciation.
Finally I could not have succeeded today without my parents, Dr. Robert C. Topper
and Marguerite Topper. Their love and generosity motivated me in long lasting
schooling and provided a consoling serenity. My deepest gratitude to Dr. Alicja Irena
Usarek, my dear wife and my colleague; I thank you for her faith and invaluable
counsel manifested purely as a labor of both professional interest and love. I was
fortunate to benefit from her knowledge and scholarly enthusiasm, and above all her
dedication to our lives together.
Thanks to all friends and family without whom this project would have been
certainly a less joyful venture.
